Unique At Home Birthday Ideas
Today is the era of play places. It's easy and we've certainly had several birthdays at one of these places. I'm sure you've either hosted a party or attended one thrown at a bounce house, trampoline or indoor climbing structure facility.
If you are looking for a unique alternative to the play place idea, why not have a party at your house with an interesting theme? My daughter recently said she wanted her next birthday to be at our house so I started thinking back to my birthday parties and parties I attended growing up when play places weren't that prevalent. Here is a list of ideas to incorporate into your next at home birthday party:
American Girl Doll or Star Wars Party: Back in the 80s, it was all about the Cabbage Patch Kids. I remember having a party at home where everyone brought their doll and we had a large picnic that incorporated our dolls. Why not have an American Girl doll party? Or Star Wars has made a comeback, maybe it's a themed birthday bringing your latest Star Wars figures.
Scavenger Hunt: Another party we had involved a large scavenger hunt around my yard. My parents set up clues everywhere which led to my birthday gift. Another idea would be to have party guests look for clues to find their goody bags or maybe a pinata.
Scrambled Dinner Menu Party: This one would be better for older kids, but I once attended a birthday party where the parents set it up like a formal dinner party. We were requested to attend in dressy attire and we sat at their dining room table. We were then given menus, but all the choices were written with scrambled letters. So when you ordered the items you wanted, you didn't know what you were getting to eat until it came out.
Fortune Teller: One party was a sleepover with a fortune teller. After dinner the fortune teller read your palm and gave you a reading. You could then ask a few questions as well.
Breakfast Buffet: Another birthday I had was a party for breakfast. What kid doesn't like breakfast? All the kids came in their pajamas and we had pancakes and waffles.
Surprise For The Guests: This party we did in the morning, but you could really do it anytime a day. We told all the parents about my birthday, but not the kids. We went to each house in the morning and woke up the child to bring to the party. Everyone was very surprised and attended in their pajamas.
Come Dressed As Your Parent: Another birthday party I had was you had to come dressed as one of your parents. One of my friends had a dad that was a dentist and another one was a doctor so it was fun for the kids to guess who everyone was. You could also do another theme along these same lines and have kids comes dressed as super heroes or other famous people that would be recognizable to kids.
Putting On A Play/Fashion Show: You could provide costumes to the kids and even do stage make-up and have them put on a short play. Another idea would be to have them walk the runway. The parents could back at the end of the party to watch the performance.
Egg Hunt: Even though Easter is over, you can hide plastic eggs all over the yard with goody bag materials inside. Each kid can receive their "goody bag" and hunt for their goodies to take home.
Simple Art Project: I remember going to parties where parents had simple arts and crafts projects to make at the party and bring home. Ideas like: using fabric markers to decorate pillows at a sleepover, tie dying shirts for a summer party outside or making pirate masks are easy to create and act as goody bags favors.
