To Buy School Supplies or Not - Blog
I recently ran into another mom and I said excitedly, "Only four more weeks left of summer!" And the other mom sighs sadly and says, "I know."
No matter how you are feeling about summer winding down, the kids will soon head back to school. Before the end of the summer, if you haven't already received it, comes the school supply list.
So my question is do you buy your child's own school supplies or if your child's school provides it, do you purchase one of those kits?
For those not familiar with these kits, usually the PTA provides all the school supplies your child needs in one package. The pros are they are economical, convenient and the school makes sure your child has everything needed for that first day of school. The parent or guardian can pay one fee and check this back-to-school item off their list.
For me personally, I like to buy my children their own supplies. I try and go at the beginning of the school supply season since they tend to be on sale during this time. My main reason for buying them myself or actually with my kids is it gives them a little individuality in their classroom.
Unlike a box provided by the P.T.A. where all supplies are uniform, getting supplies on our own, provides a bit of individuality. For example, items like scissors, notebooks and pencil cases can be personalized. My kids get excited about school selecting their supplies and feel like they had a say in starting their year off.
So what do you prefer? What will you be doing this school year?
